In 2024 Peter Eötvös celebrated his 80th birthday, but unfortunately, he couldn’t live to see this masterclass be realized – though he took part in planning it. With the intense 5-day long workshop for young conductors, we’d like to salute his work. The Ars Nova Ensemble returns to Budapest for the 3rd time to be the interpreter of the contemporary music course led by Gregory Vajda. The other professor of the masterclass will be Benoît Sitzia, the General Director of Ars Nova Ensemble. On the closing concert the pieces by Eötvös, Kurtág and Ligeti will be performed as a mirror-program, the audience can enjoy the works twice – conducted by different young conductors.

Peter Eötvös (1944-2024) was one of the best-known interpreters of 20-21st century music. His music is frequently featured in the programs of orchestras, contemporary music ensembles and festivals worldwide, and as composer and conductor he has led projects focusing on his work in cities across the globe. Eötvös attached great importance to passing on his extensive knowledge and experience to others. Until 2023 he was the initiator and leader of all the masterclasses held the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation.
